Guitarix crashes after selecting import all lv2 plugins

Postby Broomy » Sat Oct 10, 2015 12:23 pm

See the title.

When I start Guitarix in a terminal the following shows
Code: Select all
error: /usr/lib/lv2/rkr.lv2/coilcrafter.ttl:104:16: expected `]', not `l'
error: /usr/lib/lv2/rkr.lv2/coilcrafter.ttl:104:16: expected `.', not `l'
error: /usr/lib/lv2/rkr.lv2/distband.ttl:239:16: expected `]', not `l'
error: /usr/lib/lv2/rkr.lv2/distband.ttl:239:16: expected `.', not `l'
error: /usr/lib/lv2/rkr.lv2/shelfboost.ttl:104:16: expected `]', not `l'
error: /usr/lib/lv2/rkr.lv2/shelfboost.ttl:104:16: expected `.', not `l'
EBUrLV2 error: Host does not support urid:map
Segmentation fault

What can I do to get it working again?

Alright making a backup from my banks in .conf/guitarix and then deleting the guitarix directory and reinstalling guitarix did the trick to get guitarix working again .
But still this doesn't solves the "import all plugins" problem.

Those are errors in the named Plugin ttl files,
Broomy wrote:EBUrLV2 error: Host does not support urid:map

And this means, that the Plugin didn't inform the host that it need the feature "urid:map", otherwise, guitarix wouldn't try to load it, as it indeed didn't support that. If the plugin inform the host about that (like it have to do according to the specs) , it wouldn't be listed in guitarix.

As well, a error in the ttl file of the plugin.

All that must be fixed by the plugin authors, all I can do otherwise, is, remove the "Load All" Button.

The problem is solved for now, but it may be a good idea (for now) to remove the load all option.
I can imagine that a end-user doesn't know how to fix this (reinstalling doesn't help, you have to delete the directory manually).

That wouldn't really help, as the same happen when you select the bugy plugin from the list.
Best solution was to report the error to the upstream authors.

We've a list of plugs which we didn't load anyway, as the plugs are known to be bugy, when upstream wouldn't fix the errors, I could extend this list.

When I've time, I'll check if I could delay the saved data a bit, so, that when a plugin crashed, guitarix didn't save the settings for the plugin and then try to load it on next start, that could protect us at least for the "wont start anymore" behave. Only, I've just no time anymore in the next month's . .

I've reported the bug to Robin Gareus and he have fixed it in his git repository.
However, for the time being, I've disabled the load of the Stereo Phase Scope which caused the crash. So the "select all" button work again like expected.

(Still there are some plugs which didn't exit cleanly, but that is a other problem and only affect the guitarix close procedure)

I'm now coming to a more general solution, so that bad behave plugs wouldn't crash guitarix anymore.
Guitarix will now show a error message when a plug wont load as expected.
